Częstochowa celebrates 200 years of city unification

Częstochowa is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the unification of Old and New Częstochowa through various cultural and historical exhibitions.

Two major exhibitions opened on August 19. One, organized by the local branch of the State Archive, is an outdoor display at Biegański Square titled “...podniesiona do miast wielkich...”, which uses 32 panels to detail the urban history and population changes of the city before, during, and after the merger. The second exhibition, hosted at the Częstochowa Museum in the Old Town Hall, focuses on urban transformations and features original city plans dating from 1819 through the Polish People's Republic era. This includes recently restored maps from 1823 and 1827.

Additionally, the city is hosting the VIII Urban Sketchers Meeting. This event features works by artists from Poland, Ukraine, Germany, and Russia, showcasing live drawings of the city's historic Old Market Square. The exhibition of these sketches is available at the Old Town Hall until August 30, 2026.
