Częstochowa officials block sports hall appointment amid nepotism concerns

Authorities in Częstochowa have intervened following allegations of nepotism regarding a leadership position at the Hala Sportowa Częstochowa (HSC). Mikołaj Marszałek, the son of former deputy mayor Jarosław Marszałek, was the sole candidate in a recruitment process and received the committee's recommendation for the role of director of administration and sales.

However, HSC President Daniel Woch confirmed that the appointment did not ultimately take place. Acting Mayor Zdzisław Wolski stated that while the recruitment process may have been legally sound, the city must consider social perception and the negative emotions such a decision could trigger.

As the owner of the company, the Mayor has requested a meeting of the HSC Supervisory Board on August 25. The meeting will address current operations and the future management of the facility, as the current three-year contract for the company to run the venue expires at the end of the year. City officials are considering whether to transfer the management of the multi-purpose arena to the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center.
