Czuczor Gergely Benedictine Grammar School celebrates 400th academic year

The Czuczor Gergely Benedictine Grammar School and College in Győr is preparing to celebrate a major milestone. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1626, the institution will officially open its 400th academic year with a large-scale ceremony on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The event will take place at Széchenyi Square in Győr, featuring a formal welcome by Director Ágoston Barkó and a thanksgiving mass led by Dr. János Székely, Bishop of Szombathely and President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference. The celebration will include musical performances by the Loyolan Saint Ignatius Benedictine boys' choir and the Collegium Musicum Jaurinense, as well as speeches from religious and secular officials. To accommodate attendees, 2,000 seats will be provided, and the event will be broadcast live via the school’s YouTube and Facebook pages.
