Łódź advances High-Speed Rail tunnel construction
Construction of the High-Speed Rail (KDP) tunnel in Łódź has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the ‘cradle’ for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Located in the Retkinia district, this semi-circular concrete foundation provides the necessary support and precise positioning required to insert the automated drilling machine into the starting chamber.
An international team of specialists worked continuously for three weeks to complete the structure. The project involved experts from several European countries, including Poland, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, and Italy.
Following the assembly of the machine's components and subsequent technical testing, drilling is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. This project represents one of the most critical segments of Poland's upcoming underground railway infrastructure.
