Łódź City Council approves property exchange for developer

The Łódź City Council has approved a property exchange agreement that will allow a developer to access green space in the Bałuty district. Under the decision, the city will acquire real estate at Harcerska 8, 10, and 12, valued at 13.33 million PLN, from a private company.

In exchange, the city will provide the developer with property at Widok 7/9, valued at 2.8 million PLN, and undeveloped plots at Wojska Polskiego 41 and 53, worth approximately 10 million PLN. The decision faced significant opposition from local residents and activists who sought to preserve the green area near Wojska Polskiego.

During the session, Councilor Bartosz Kacprzak argued that the city had two choices: pay approximately 13 million PLN to keep the green space or proceed with the exchange to support private housing development. Councilor Tomasz Anielak of the Law and Justice party opposed the resolution, criticizing the management of municipal assets and noting that Łódź is experiencing population decline.
