Łódź earmarks millions for renovation of historic tenements

The Łódź city budget has allocated additional funding for the restoration of historic tenement buildings. Sixteen addressed were selected for this year’s support under the Special Revitalization Zone, receiving a further 5 million zł on top of the 28.6 million zł already spent since 2018. The programme, which has already renovated 124 buildings, covers window replacement, damp‑proofing, façade work and stairwell renewal on streets such as Kościuszki, Wschodnia, Anstadta, Sienkiewicza, Piotrkowska and others, with the goal of completing works by 2026.

Mayor Hanna Zdanowska highlighted the cultural significance, stating that the restored facades are “our heritage and something that distinguishes Łódź from other cities.” City Architect Office director Robert Sobański echoed the sentiment, noting the unique architectural features of the city’s tenements and the importance of preserving them.
