Łódź EC-2 redevelopment: JHM Development to build 2,000 apartments
Following the demolition of three chimneys at the former EC-2 heating plant on Wróblewskiego Street in Łódź, JHM Development has announced plans to demolish two cooling towers. Kaja Mirgos-Kwiatkowska, president of JHM Development, stated that the cooling towers are in very poor technical condition with compromised structures, making preservation impossible. Unlike the chimney demolition, the removal of the towers will be a gradual process to ensure the safety of neighboring buildings.
The 20-hectare site is slated for a major revitalization project worth over one billion PLN. The development will include approximately 2,000 residential units, some of which will feature architectural designs inspired by the shape of the cooling towers. The project also aims to incorporate service, commercial, and sports facilities, alongside public spaces, greenery, and recreational areas. A public square with structures referencing the site's industrial history is planned for the location of two shorter chimneys.
