D. L. Hughley criticizes Trump administration tactics
Comedian D. L. Hughley has criticized the Trump administration for using distraction tactics to obscure its economic record regarding minority communities. During a segment on ‘The D. L. Hughley Show’, he argued that the administration employs methods such as threatening war, attacking foreign nations, and labeling critics as ‘un-American’ to divert attention from unfavorable news.
Hughley specifically addressed the use of Black icons for political optics, suggesting that celebrities are exploited for imagery and later discarded. He also challenged the ‘fake news’ narrative, noting that many media outlets and social platforms are owned by allies of the administration, which he claims allows for the silencing of uncomfortable questions while maintaining an illusion of a free press.
On economic grounds, Hughley highlighted a 7.7% unemployment rate among Black women—nearly double the national average—and noted significant job losses that he believes are being masked by political theatrics.
