Łódź renovates historic Piotrkowska building and Zielony Rynek market

The city of Łódź announced a comprehensive renovation of the historic Art Nouveau building at 41 Piotrkowska Street. Built in 1889 and later expanded by Robert Weyrauch, the façade and interior polychromes will be restored, the courtyard will be greened, and the structure will be fully accessible for people with disabilities. The project will create 38 apartments—including at least one for a person with special needs—and four commercial premises. It is part of the 9‑area Revitalisation Programme for central Łódź, valued at over 253 million zł, with completion targeted for June 2029.

At the same time, the Green Market (Zielony Rynek) hall will undergo a public‑private partnership‑driven overhaul. The historic wooden vault will be preserved while new modern stalls, wider aisles, abundant greenery, and a multi‑level parking facility for at least 120 cars are added. The redesign ensures that trading continues throughout the works, with merchants consulted on scheduling and layout. Both initiatives aim to improve functionality, accessibility, and the aesthetic appeal of Łódź’s central urban space.
