Poland seeks state stake in Orlen Synthos Green Energy SMR project

Poland is considering state involvement in the Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) project to develop small modular reactors (SMRs). Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka stated that the Polish Development Fund (PFR) should hold a 33 percent stake in the company to ensure structural stability and prevent decision-making deadlocks.

The OSGE project aims to build a fleet of BWRX-300 reactors, each with a capacity of 300 MW, using technology developed by GE Vernova Hitachi. The first reactor is planned for construction in Włocławek. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify energy sources and increase the stability and flexibility of the national power system, especially following recent extreme heatwaves that tested the grid's capacity.
