Łódź revitalizes historic Poznański worker housing complex

The historic Poznański famuły buildings at Ogrodowa 24 in Łódź have completed a major revitalization project. Originally constructed between 1879 and 1896 to house workers for Izrael Poznański’s factory, the complex is being repurposed into a multifunctional space.

The renovated site will feature 80 fully furnished and air-conditioned municipal apartments, as well as approximately 2,180 square meters of office space and 1,750 square meters for commercial services. While initial plans included a hostel, the current strategy focuses on residential, office, and service functions.

Architectural preservation was a priority, with efforts focused on cleaning the characteristic red brick, restoring wooden stairs and decorative details, and maintaining the industrial character. Modern upgrades include new installations, elevators, photovoltaic panels on the roofs, and systems for rainwater retention and greywater recovery. The courtyard has been transformed into a green space with trees, walkways, pergolas, and a vertical garden, alongside a covered bicycle parking area with charging stations.
