Łódź to make public transport free on All Saints' Day
Łódź Mayor Hanna Zdanowska has announced plans to make public transportation free on November 1, All Saints' Day, on a permanent basis. Following a successful trial last year, the mayor has requested a resolution to be voted on during the upcoming City Council session on September 16.
The initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate easier access to cemeteries for residents. Last year, the cost of providing free transit for a single day was estimated at approximately 300,000 PLN.
Additionally, the association ‘Łódź Cała Naprzód’ has proposed expanding free transit to include October 31. Proponents argue that since All Saints' Day falls on a Sunday in 2026, a full weekend of free travel would better manage traffic, increase parking availability, and promote long-term use of public transport.
