D-Wave Quantum secures $1.5 M NSF grant to advance fault‑tolerant quantum computing

The National Science Foundation awarded D‑Wave Quantum Inc. a $1,566,250 grant through its National Quantum Virtual Laboratory program to support the ERA SE (Erasure Qubits and Dynamic Circuits for Quantum Advantage) project led by Yale University. The funding gives researchers access to D‑Wave’s superconducting dual‑rail gate‑model quantum computer, enabling experiments on error‑correction methods, compiler designs and scalable architectures aimed at fault‑tolerant operation. The initiative also emphasizes workforce development, linking multiple academic institutions and industry partners to build a skilled quantum talent pipeline.

D‑Wave CEO Alan Baratz highlighted the grant as evidence of the United States’ commitment to maintaining leadership in scalable quantum technologies.
