D3 Publisher to release seven ONI RPG titles on Nintendo Switch
D3 Publisher has announced that seven titles from the Japanese-style RPG series ‘ONI’ will be re-released for the Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2027. The collection includes five titles originally released for the Game Boy, ranging from ‘Oninin Koumakuroku ONI’ (1990) to ‘ONI V: Onin o Tsugu Mono’ (1995), as well as two titles originally released for the Super Famicom, ‘Kishin Kourinden ONI’ and ‘Bakumatsu Kourinden ONI’.
The series is characterized by its themes of Japanese folklore, featuring ninjas, swordsmen, and supernatural beings like yokai and oni. A signature mechanic is the ‘Tenshin’ system, which allows characters to transform into different forms to change their abilities. While the Switch versions will maintain the original graphics and gameplay, they will include modern quality-of-life features such as quick save/load and rewind functions.
Digital versions of the Game Boy titles will be priced at 1,980 yen each, while the Super Famicom titles will be 2,970 yen. Physical bundles are also available, including a 5-title pack for the Game Boy games and a 2-title pack for the Super Famicom games. A limited edition 7-title pack will be released for 22,000 yen, featuring a novel by Takaya Iijima and an original soundtrack CD.
