The parents of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez have filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles against singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and names Burke, his companies, his management, his mother, and a security guard as defendants, alleging they facilitated the isolation of the minor.

This civil action follows criminal charges against Burke for the murder of Rivas Hernandez. Prosecutors allege Burke killed the teenager in April 2025 at his Hollywood Hills home after she threatened to reveal their relationship. The victim's remains were discovered in the trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke in September 2025. The coroner classified the death as a homicide resulting from multiple penetrating wounds.

The victim's family has also publicly called for the death penalty if Burke is convicted, despite the penalty currently being under a temporary ban in California. Burke has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for October 19.
