David Anthony Burke to stand trial for murder of 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo found probable cause after a five‑day preliminary hearing (July 20‑27) that evidence was sufficient to move the case to trial. The charges against indie‑pop singer David Anthony Burke, known as D4vd, include first‑degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child and unlawful mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors presented forensic photographs, crime‑scene evidence and extensive text‑message logs showing the victim, 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, began a relationship with Burke when she was 12, turned sexual at 13, and later threatened to expose the relationship. Her dismembered remains were discovered in September 2025 inside the trunk of Burke’s Tesla. Special circumstances cited are lying in wait, financial gain and murder of a witness. The district attorney’s office is considering seeking the death penalty. Burke is scheduled for arraignment on August 31, 2025 and will remain held without bail.
