Da Meng selected to represent Taiwan at the 99th Academy Awards

The Taiwan Ministry of Culture has announced that the film ‘Da Meng’ will represent Taiwan in the competition for Best International Feature at the 99th Academy Awards. Out of seven domestic films that applied for selection, the committee chose ‘Da Meng’ through a majority vote, citing its vivid characters and its ability to present an era through a diverse, grassroots perspective.

Directed by Chen Yu-hsun, the film is set in the 1950s and explores the historical atmosphere of the White Terror era through the lives of ordinary people. The film has already achieved significant critical acclaim, winning four awards at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards, including Best Feature Film, and five awards at the 28th Taipei Film Awards.

In addition to its domestic success, ‘Da Meng’ has performed well internationally, appearing in various film festivals and streaming platforms. The Ministry of Culture also noted the strong performance of the Taiwanese film industry, with domestic box office revenues reaching 1.192 billion TWD and cumulative viewership exceeding 4.4 million as of July.
