Da Nang approves 12 trillion VND urban flood prevention plan

Da Nang City has approved an adjusted urban ground elevation and surface water drainage plan through 2030, with a vision toward 2045. The initiative aims to mitigate urban flooding and enhance resilience against climate change and rising sea levels across approximately 129,046 hectares.

The plan divides the city into five control zones: central, northwest, east, south, and Hoa Vang. Each zone has specific minimum ground elevation requirements to minimize flood risks. To manage drainage, the design water level at the Han River mouth and sea outlets is set at +1.2m.

Rather than relying on a single project, the city will implement a combination of land raising, river embankment reinforcement, improved pumping station capacity, and the utilization of existing regulating lakes. The estimated total investment required for priority projects is approximately 12,016 billion VND, which will be sourced from local and central budgets, international aid, and socialized capital.
