Da Nang fishing industry sees high squid profits amid mixed results
The fishing industry in Da Nang is experiencing significant economic disparities. Squid jigging has emerged as a highly profitable sector, with boat owners reporting profits of approximately 1 billion VND per trip and laborers earning around 100 million VND. Da Nang currently has 57 registered squid jigging vessels, primarily operating in the Truong Sa fishing grounds, with squid yields reaching over 2,717 tons through September 30, 2026.
In contrast, other fishing methods such as purse seine and gillnetting are facing economic challenges. Despite a 20-30% increase in catch volume, these fishermen are struggling with rising fuel and essential commodity costs alongside unstable seafood market prices.
Overall, Da Nang's seafood production for the first nine months of 2026 is estimated at 113,400 tons, a slight increase from the previous year. The city is also intensifying digital transformation efforts and measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, with 100% of vessels over 6 meters registered in the national fisheries database.
