Da Nang Hospital performs emergency surgery for Marfan syndrome complication
Doctors at Da Nang Hospital successfully performed emergency surgery on a 34-year-old patient suffering from acute type A aortic dissection linked to Marfan syndrome. The patient presented with sudden, intense chest pain radiating to the abdomen.
Diagnostic imaging revealed extensive damage, including blockage of the right renal artery and left iliac artery, with the dissection progressing into the common carotid arteries and coronary roots. Following a seven-hour surgical procedure involving complex techniques to manage the aortic damage and complications, the patient's condition stabilized.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hai, Head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department at Da Nang Hospital, noted that Marfan syndrome is a genetic connective tissue disorder that can cause aortic abnormalities. Medical professionals advise individuals with Marfan syndrome to undergo regular cardiovascular monitoring and emphasize the importance of blood pressure control to mitigate risks.
