Da Nang hosts national Vietnamese speaking contest for foreigners
The final round of the 2026 national Vietnamese-language speaking contest for foreigners was held on September 25 at the University of Science and Education in Da Nang. Organized by the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organisations and Peace Committee in partnership with the University of Da Nang, the event serves as part of the city’s people-to-people diplomacy initiatives.
Seven finalist teams, comprising students from Laos, China, Japan, and Cambodia, competed across various academic institutions in Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City. The competition evaluated contestants on Vietnamese language proficiency, public speaking, logical argumentation, and knowledge of Vietnamese history, geography, and customs.
Participants shared diverse cultural narratives, ranging from stories of historical figures to the shared traditions of the Mekong Delta region. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Vice Rector of the University of Science and Education, noted that mastering the language allows foreigners to move closer to understanding Vietnam while fostering mutual cultural exchange.
