Da Nang increases malaria surveillance after imported cases
Health authorities in Da Nang have increased surveillance following the detection of two imported malaria cases. Between September 29 and October 1, two individuals returning from Africa were identified as having contracted malaria caused by P. falciparum, a parasite capable of causing severe illness and dangerous complications if not treated promptly.
Epidemiological investigations revealed that one patient had stayed in Nigeria and the other in Ivory Coast. Both individuals are currently receiving treatment at Da Nang Hospital. The Da Nang Center for Disease Control (CDC) has urged local medical centers and commune health stations to heighten monitoring for secondary cases within the community. Health officials advised that anyone returning from malaria-endemic regions who experiences fever, chills, or sweating should seek immediate medical attention and disclose their travel history to ensure proper testing and diagnosis.
