Da Nang military plans search for suspected martyr remains on Hon Tau Mountain

The Da Nang Military Command is coordinating a specialized survey to locate the suspected remains of more than 10 martyrs from Surgery Team 5 on Hon Tau Mountain in Duy Xuyen. The search follows a request from the family of martyr Vo Van Ngoc, a doctor who died in 1969 when a U.S. bombing caused the Mat Rang cave to collapse.

Based on historical records, witness testimonies from local residents, and field inspections, authorities have identified a potential site at the Ho Chuoi cave area on the western slope of the Hon Tau range, approximately 500 meters above sea level. The site covers over 2,000 square meters and is characterized by dense forest, heavy rock formations, and ground subsidence.

Due to the treacherous terrain, which requires a three-hour trek through mountainous forest, the military is developing a comprehensive plan to mobilize personnel and equipment. The goal is to accurately determine the cave's structure and facilitate the recovery of the remains as part of a larger repatriation campaign.
