Da Nang Police Alert Public to Phone Scam Offering Free Gifts

Da Nang police issued a warning after receiving numerous complaints about fraudulent phone calls. Callers pretended to be employees of supermarkets, shopping centres or customer‑appreciation programs and told recipients they had won free household items such as rice cookers, fans or hair dryers.

After the call ends, the number is one‑way or no longer works, preventing victims from calling back. The scammers then ask for personal data, bank account numbers, OTP codes, or request a transfer to pay fictitious shipping or processing fees. Some also direct victims to click unknown links or install apps to capture credentials.

Police advise citizens not to trust unsolicited prize notifications, not to provide personal or banking information, not to transfer money or follow unknown links, and to record suspicious numbers and report them to authorities.
