Da Nang police bust 8 billion‑dong gambling ring on Zalo, Telegram and Viber

The Da Nang City Public Security Police Department dismantled a large illegal gambling network that operated by distributing betting numbers ("số đề") through the messaging apps Zalo, Telegram and Viber. Investigators launched Special Case 626D, searched six locations in the Hòa Khánh ward on 14 July 2026, and summoned 27 people for questioning. The ring handled transactions totalling almost 8 billion VND.

Nine suspects were formally charged with “organising gambling” and “gambling”. Four – Huỳnh Thị Quảng, Phạm Thị Thu Lan, Nguyễn Thị Minh Phượng and Trần Thị Kỳ Lan – were detained pending investigation. Five others, including Trương Thị Thêm and Nguyễn Thành Tây, were barred from leaving their residences. The investigation revealed that participants bought and sold betting numbers in cash amounts of tens of millions of đồng, with key figures such as Nguyễn Thành Tây purchasing numbers from Võ Thị Huệ and Trương Thị Thêm. Evidence was seized from smartphones and online accounts, including attempts by some suspects to destroy devices during raids.
