Vietnam authorities conduct major fraud trial and drug crackdowns
Authorities in Vietnam are conducting several high-profile legal and security operations. In Da Nang, the People's Court has scheduled a trial for August 21, 2026, regarding a fraud case involving GFDI Investment Consulting Co., Ltd. The trial is expected to last three days and involves over 7,000 victims, requiring a combination of in-person and online proceedings due to the massive number of participants.
Simultaneously, Da Nang police have launched a 45-day intensive campaign to combat drug crimes. This crackdown has involved testing thousands of individuals across residential areas, internet cafes, and karaoke bars, resulting in hundreds of positive drug tests and several arrests for organizing illegal drug use.
In other regions, Tay Ninh police have indicted a concrete factory deputy director for environmental pollution after discovering over 400 tons of illegally dumped concrete waste. In Can Tho, four suspects were arrested for a dog-theft gang that used homemade firearms to injure a police officer during a pursuit. Additionally, in Bac Ninh, a man was detained for illegal drug possession after attempting to flee from traffic police.
