Da Nang police dismantle large football betting ring ahead of World Cup 2026

The Da Nang City Criminal Investigation Police launched a coordinated operation on June 3, mobilising 50 officers in eight teams to target a large-scale football betting syndicate. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of seven suspects, including leaders Lê Trung Hải and Nguyễn Quang Hiếu, and the seizure of 12 mobile phones, over 150 pages of betting records and 231.8 million VND in cash.

Investigators said the ring, active since January 2024, handled roughly 20 billion VND in illegal wagers on football matches, using messaging apps such as Zalo and Messenger to exchange betting slips and settle bets. The police continue to expand the investigation to identify additional participants and pursue further legal action.
