Da Nang seeks owners of 1,100 historic records and gold belonging to former Southern‑Vietnam officials
The Department of Internal Affairs of Da Nang has launched a public search to verify and return more than 1,100 copies of files and memorabilia of "cán bộ đi B" – officials who moved from North to South between 1959 and 1975. The items are stored at the Da Nang City Historical Archive and include documents of doctors, teachers, engineers, writers and artists. Authorities have posted notices and asked local agencies and the public to help identify the rightful owners or their families.
Separately, two communes in Da Nang are confirming details about gold bars sent by two former officials, now held at the National Archives III in Hanoi. The gold belongs to Nguyen Van Kim (Tong), born 1 Oct 1925 in Duy Trinh, Duy Xuyên, and Nguyen Dong (Nguyen Huu Phan). Local chairmen Dang Huu Phuc (Duy Xuyên) and Nguyen Van Khanh (Nam Phước) have coordinated searches and appealed to family councils, but no relatives have been located after more than 50 years.
