Da Nang targets international tourism and tech growth

Da Nang is implementing strategic initiatives to expand its international presence in both the tourism and technology sectors. In the tourism industry, the city is targeting the Russian and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) markets following a significant rebound in visitor numbers. During the first eight months of 2026, Da Nang welcomed over 411,000 visitors from the CIS region, a 94.2% year-on-year increase. Russian arrivals specifically rose by 151.4%, making Russia the city's seventh-largest international tourist market.

To sustain this growth, the city is leveraging improved air connectivity and digital promotion through platforms like the Yandex ecosystem. Authorities and industry experts suggest focusing on high-spending segments and diverse travel products, such as wellness and gastronomy, to avoid being categorized solely as a low-cost destination.

Simultaneously, Da Nang is working to transform into a globally competitive metropolis by encouraging local businesses and startups to scale internationally. At the SURF 2026 innovation event, experts emphasized that local market limitations necessitate international expansion for rapid growth. The municipal government is supporting this transition by organizing international events to facilitate technological partnerships and connect local innovators with global networks.
