DAÜ-SEN rejects Minister Çavuşoğlu's claims over pension bill delay

The Academic Personnel Union of Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ-SEN) has issued a strong rebuttal against Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu regarding a stalled bill concerning pension rights. The legislation concerns staff employed before 1986 who are entitled to public servant retirement status under the university's founding law.

DAÜ-SEN denied allegations made by the Minister that the union or specific committee members from the UBP and CTP parties were responsible for the bill's lack of progress. The union clarified that it attended the Republican Assembly's Administrative, Public, and Health Affairs Committee meeting only as an invited guest and held no voting rights.

The union stated that the committee previously decided to postpone discussions to correct technical and material errors in the Ministry's draft, ensure consensus with the retirees' association, and prevent the regulation from being overturned by the Constitutional Court. DAÜ-SEN claims that while political members have offered constructive suggestions, the Ministry has failed to take concrete steps to rectify the draft's deficiencies or restart the committee process.
