Da-Yeh University partners with Kuaguan Elementary for aquaponics science camp

Da-Yeh University has partnered with Kuaguan Elementary School in Changhua to host a science camp focused on sustainable aquaponics and ecological cycles. The initiative is part of a project titled “From Algae Cultivation to AI: Smart Aquaponics Sustainable Circulation Science Camp,” which is funded by the National Science and Technology Council.

Led by Professor Wu Chien-yi of the Department of Medicinal Plants and Food Health, the program uses the hands-on creation of “ecosystem tanks” to teach students about biological diversity and ecological balance. These miniature ecosystems allow students to observe the symbiotic relationships between producers (water plants), consumers (fish), cleaners (shrimp), and decomposers (bacteria).

The curriculum aims to connect traditional biological concepts, such as nutrient cycling and plant growth, with modern advancements like artificial intelligence. By observing how these organisms interact to maintain a stable environment, students gain practical insights into how food production relates to water, plants, and the natural environment.
