Dabas scrapyard manager charged after fatal workshop fire
The Dabasi District Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against the manager of a car scrapyard following a fatal fire in November 2025. The manager is accused of negligent endangerment causing death.
The incident occurred when a long-term employee attempted to remove a fuel tank from a vehicle without first draining the fuel. During the process, the tank tilted, spilling over 30 liters of gasoline onto the floor. Because the manager had previously sealed the workshop's ventilation openings with polycarbonate sheets, there was no natural or artificial ventilation. The resulting gasoline vapors ignited instantly, causing a massive explosion and fire.
Prosecutors allege the tragedy was caused by several failures by the manager, including operating an open-flame mixed-fuel boiler just meters away from hazardous work, failing to provide adequate ventilation, and neglecting to implement systems for the safe collection and drainage of spilled fuel. The victim succumbed to severe burns after being transported to a hospital. The Dabasi District Court will decide on the defendant's guilt.
