Dabur wins Delhi High Court stay on FSSAI ban of “100%” product claims

The Delhi High Court, sitting as a single‑judge bench under Justice Amit Mahajan, stayed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) August 3 order that had directed Dabur India Ltd to halt sales of several products bearing “100 % Pure”, “100 % Natural”, “100 % Purity Guaranteed”, “100 % Organic” and similar claims. The court held that a prohibitory order of this nature should not be issued without first hearing the company, noting a prima facie case in Dabur’s favour. The stay remains in effect until the next hearing scheduled for August 24.

Dabur argued that it had used the labels for decades, that the designated officer lacked authority to impose an emergency ban, and that the regulator failed to provide a show‑cause notice or observe natural‑justice principles. The FSSAI contended the “100 %” claims were ambiguous, unverifiable and potentially misleading to consumers.
