Dachau to host literary festival and history symposium

In October 2026, the city of Dachau will host two major events: the ‘Dachau liest’ literary festival and the Dachau Symposium on Contemporary History.

The ‘Dachau liest’ festival, organized annually by the Dachau City Library since 2014, will run from October 6 to 16. The program features various authors, including Mirjam Zadoff, Lena Gorelik, Joana Osman, and Alena Schröder, covering themes ranging from social dialogue to crime fiction.

Running concurrently or immediately following the festival, the Dachau Symposium on Contemporary History will take place on October 16 and 17. This academic event, titled ‘Artistic Memorial Signs in Concentration Camp Memorials from 1945 to Today – Aesthetics, Iconographies, Functions, Controversies’, will bring together scholars from art history, cultural studies, and history to examine the significance of artistic memorials in former National Socialist concentration and extermination camps.
