Dacia and Ford Otosan prepare to restart Romanian factories

Dacia and Ford Otosan are preparing to restart production at their plants in Mioveni and Craiova. However, returning to full capacity is contingent upon the stability of the electricity supply provided by Transelectrica, the national energy transmission operator.

The economic stakes are significant; a single day of simultaneous shutdowns at both factories is estimated to result in losses of approximately 70 million euros. Even a single evening of consumption limitations could cost manufacturers around 12 million euros.

As major industrial and export hubs for Romania, any disruption to these plants impacts a vast ecosystem of component suppliers, logistics, and services. The situation highlights how energy infrastructure vulnerabilities can rapidly translate into massive industrial costs for the national economy.
