Dacia unveils new Spring EV while warning of production limits in Romania

Dacia has unveiled the second generation of its Spring electric city car, marking a significant strategic shift by moving production from China to Europe. The new model will be manufactured at the Renault Group plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, utilizing the RGEV Small platform shared with the Renault Twingo.

The updated Spring features a more robust, SUV-inspired design with increased dimensions, growing 15 cm in length and 18 cm in width compared to its predecessor. It is equipped with an 80 hp motor and a 27.5 kWh LFP battery, offering a WLTP range of approximately 250 km. Despite the upgrades, Dacia aims to maintain its core value proposition of affordability, with expected European pricing starting around €17,900.

Separately, Dacia leadership has expressed concerns regarding the Mioveni plant in Romania. Dacia head Mihai Bordeanu stated that no new models are expected to be produced at the Mioveni facility until 2030, citing high electricity and gas costs as major threats to competitiveness. Production at Mioveni will focus on existing models, specifically the Duster and Bigster, while the company seeks greater clarity from the Romanian government regarding fiscality and energy prices.
