Dacia develops affordable electric microcar to be produced in China

Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault, is developing a compact electric vehicle inspired by the Hipster concept, aimed at providing an affordable urban mobility solution. The model is expected to enter production in China, utilizing the infrastructure of the Renault-Nissan-Dongfeng joint venture, similar to the production of the Dacia Spring.

The vehicle is targeted at a price point below 10,000 euros (approximately R$ 60,000) to bridge the gap between light quadricycles and traditional entry-level hatchbacks. Measuring approximately 3 meters in length, the car is designed to maximize mobility in dense urban environments while offering four seats.

To meet European L7e category regulations, the vehicle may be subject to specific technical constraints, such as a maximum weight of 450 kilograms (excluding batteries) and a top speed of 90 km/h. Manufacturing in China is intended to leverage local battery and component ecosystems to maintain low costs and potentially bypass certain EU tariffs applied to specific electric vehicle imports.
