Dacia Mioveni factory faces potential Geely acquisition rumors

Speculation has emerged regarding the potential acquisition of the Dacia automobile factory in Mioveni, Romania, by the Chinese automotive giant Geely. Bogdan Ciubuc, Country Manager for Geely SEE, noted that while rumors of a takeover exist, no official confirmation has been provided by Geely, Renault, or Dacia.

Geely already maintains an industrial presence in Romania through Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Renault Group and Geely (with Saudi Aramco holding a 10% stake) that specializes in engines and transmissions. While the Horse facility and the Dacia assembly plant are distinct entities, the existing partnership could facilitate further expansion.

In a separate context regarding Renault's production strategy, former Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi CEO Carlos Ghosn addressed why the group chose Morocco over Romania, Slovenia, or Turkey for its low-cost vehicle production base. Ghosn stated that the decision was driven by infrastructure, export positioning, and the need to diversify production to serve Africa, the Gulf, and Europe. Currently, the Mioveni plant in Romania produces models such as the Duster, Bigster, and Logan.
