Dacia Mioveni plant faces potential Chinese acquisition or partnership

Reports suggest that Chinese companies may be interested in acquiring or collaborating with the Dacia manufacturing plant in Mioveni, Romania. According to journalist Radu Tudor, there may already be discussions between Chinese entities and Renault regarding a potential takeover of the facility.

One possible scenario involves Geely, the Chinese owner of Volvo, utilizing the Mioveni plant. This could occur through the existing industrial partnership between Renault and Geely, which established the Horse Powertrain joint venture in 2022 for thermal and hybrid engines. Such an arrangement could allow for the production of Chinese vehicles in Romania without Renault necessarily selling the factory outright.

These speculations arise at a time when Dacia leadership has indicated that no new Dacia models, including upcoming electric versions, are currently planned for production at the Mioveni site. While these reports have not been officially confirmed by Renault or Dacia, they highlight the shifting landscape of the European automotive industry as Chinese firms seek to establish local production to mitigate taxation.
