Dacia Spring removes central screen in new base electric model
Dacia is implementing a pragmatic cost-cutting strategy for the base version of its new Spring electric vehicle by removing the central infotainment screen. Instead, the vehicle utilizes the Media Control system, which relies on the driver's smartphone for navigation, music, radio, and telephone functions.
To facilitate this, the dashboard includes a dedicated smartphone holder, and essential functions can be managed via steering wheel buttons to minimize distraction. This approach aims to reduce vehicle weight and manufacturing costs while leveraging hardware that customers already own. While this method has been used previously by brands like Volkswagen and Fiat, it presents potential drawbacks if a user's phone is unavailable or out of battery.
In markets such as France, the new Spring is expected to start at approximately 17,900 euros for the Expression trim, with the Journey trim priced higher. The strategy aligns with Dacia's historical philosophy of offering essential features with minimal excess equipment.
