Dacia's Pack Sleep kit expands affordable pseudo‑camping‑car market in Europe

Dacia introduced the Pack Sleep kit in 2023 for models such as the Jogger, Duster and Bigster, offering a removable sleeping setup that keeps the vehicle in its original passenger‑car classification. Because the kit does not require VASP homologation, owners avoid additional registration fees, technical inspections and higher toll categories, preserving resale value and allowing the vehicle to remain in toll category 1.

The concept has spurred other automakers to launch similar temporary‑camping solutions: Porsche offers an adaptable roof tent for the 911, Tesla provides a “camping mode” for its cars, Kia and Volkswagen are presenting kits at the Caravan Düsseldorf show, and VW’s Good Night Package sells in Germany for €2,600, including a mattress, table, chairs and climate control. These developments signal a growing trend toward low‑cost, flexible camping accessories for ordinary cars.
