Dacky Mbor Camara, Guinea's first national football captain, dies at 92

Dacky Mbor Camara, the first captain in the history of the Guinean national football team, has died in Conakry at the age of 92 following an illness. His passing was announced by the Guinean Football Federation.

Camara was a foundational figure in Guinean football during the era surrounding the country's independence in 1958. He played for Société Sportive de Guinée (SSG), a club that achieved significant success between 1950 and 1957. When the first national selection was formed around 1960, Camara was elected captain by his teammates after a vote against Aboubacar Baratte Camara.

Beyond his playing career, Camara authored ‘Le football guinéen, des origines à l’indépendance (1925-1958)’, a book documenting the history of the sport in the country. His career spanned a transformative period for the nation, including the era of the Coupe PDG and the early years of the Syli National.
