Dadia National Park wildlife poisoning inquiry submitted to Greek Ministry

Members of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) have submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Minister of Environment and Energy regarding the mass poisoning of wildlife in the Dadia-Levkimidis-Soufli National Park.

Six months after the incident, which resulted in the deaths of nine black vultures and 16 other wild animals due to poisoned baits, lawmakers claim there has been no substantial update on the progress or results of the investigations. The black vulture (Aegypius monachus) is one of Europe’s most threatened raptors, and the Dadia region hosts the only naturally breeding colony of the species in the Balkans, consisting of only 36–47 pairs.

The KKE emphasizes that the loss of even a few adults could destabilize the colony. The inquiry calls for comprehensive protection measures, including increased support for the Forestry Service, scientific monitoring of wildlife, and improved state management to address systemic deficiencies in personnel and resources.
