Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province Accelerate Administrative Integration

Mayor Chu Keun‑ho of Daegu and Governor Lee Cheol‑woo of North Gyeongsang Province met on 29 May to push a joint administrative integration of the two jurisdictions. They pledged to elevate the joint task‑force leadership to the mayor and governor, reorganise related organisations, and rally support for a special integration law.

The officials aim to have the special law passed in the regular National Assembly session in September and to hold a joint parliamentary meeting of Daegu‑Gyeongsang‑North lawmakers. They also plan a combined statement and a request for assistance from the Assembly presidium. The integration is presented as essential for advancing projects such as the Daegu‑Gyeongsang‑North airport and for strengthening the region’s competitiveness ahead of the 2028 local elections, when a unified chief‑executive would be elected.
