Daegu Announces Industry Blueprint, Readies 2026 Masters Athletics
Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho convened heads of eleven regional future‑industry institutes—including the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency, the Intelligent Vehicle Parts Promotion Agency, Daegu‑Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation, DGIST and Daegu TechnoPark—to review AI, robotics, future mobility, semiconductors and medical sectors. The meeting aimed to assess Daegu’s competitiveness and to draft a mid‑to‑long‑term development strategy, with a research‑contract budget to be added in the September amendment and a unified governance system to be finalized by the end of the year.
In parallel, the city held a volunteer launch ceremony for the 2026 Daegu World Masters Athletics, selecting about 975 volunteers for safety, transport, accommodation, medical support and competition operations. The event, scheduled for 22 August‑3 September 2026 at Daegu Stadium, will host roughly 10,100 athletes and officials from 106 nations. Mayor Choo said the games will enhance Daegu’s profile as an international sports city.
