Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway passes feasibility study
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Metropolitan Railway construction project has officially passed the government’s preliminary feasibility study. This large-scale infrastructure project involves a total investment of approximately 3.18 trillion KRW to build a 70.06 km double-track railway connecting Daegu to Uiseong via Dong-Gumi and Gunwi.
Once completed, the railway is expected to drastically improve accessibility to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport, reducing travel time from West Daegu Station to the airport from 62 minutes by car to approximately 25-30 minutes. The line will utilize high-speed GTX-class vehicles capable of reaching speeds of 180 km/h.
The project aims to integrate Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do into a single economic and living zone, connecting major industrial hubs such as the Gumi National Industrial Complex and the planned Gunwi Advanced Industrial Complex. Local officials emphasized that the project is a critical step toward achieving balanced national development and countering regional population decline.
