Daegu hosts musical performances spanning classical and Korean art songs
Daegu is hosting a series of musical performances that bridge historical Korean compositions with classical and contemporary works.
One upcoming production, ‘Gagok Sidae’ (Age of Art Songs), will take place on October 4 at the Daegu Culture and Arts Center. The performance focuses on the life and music of the late composer Kim Sun-nam, known for composing Korea’s first piano concerto. The program features his works set to the poetry of Kim So-wol, such as ‘Azaleas,’ and includes a poetic recitation by his daughter, broadcaster Kim Se-won, who spent years tracing her father’s musical legacy.
Additionally, the performance ‘Our Night is Your Song’ will be held on October 1 in Gunwi and October 21 in Dalseo-gu. Performed by the Daegu Virtuoso Chamber and conducted by Kim Seong-jin, this concert connects the works of classical composers like Mahler, Schubert, and Brahms with the popular music of Kim Kwang-seok. The event aims to explore universal themes of love, loss, and memory across different musical genres and eras.
