Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho focuses on local economy and public institution relocation
Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho has been conducting field visits to local traditional markets to monitor price stability of holiday goods and the operation of Onnuri gift certificate refund events ahead of the Chuseok holiday. To support the local economy, the city plans to issue 100 billion won in Daegu Pay and implement special consumption measures, including a ‘Daebak Sale’ to provide gift certificates based on purchase amounts.
In a separate strategic focus, Mayor Chu expressed confidence in Daegu’s ability to maximize the impact of the government’s second phase of public institution relocation. He aims to attract institutions that align with Daegu’s five future industries: AI, robotics, future mobility, bio-healthcare, and semiconductors. The city is also preparing settlement support for relocated employees, including housing and education assistance.
Additionally, Mayor Chu advocated for keeping the headquarters of the proposed merged energy resource company in Daegu, citing the scale of the Korea Gas Corporation. He also voiced strong opposition to the government’s proposed ‘Future Response Fund,’ arguing it could undermine local fiscal autonomy by diverting tax revenue intended for local governments.
