Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho rejects insurrection charges as political suppression

Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho marked his 100th day in office by addressing both his administration's progress and the legal challenges he faces. During a press conference, Chu responded to a 20-year prison sentence recommendation from the special counsel team investigating the December 3 insurrection incident.

Chu characterized the prosecution and the sentencing recommendation as “political suppression” and “fabricated indictment,” arguing that the legal basis used by the special counsel is incomprehensible. He stated his intention to fight the charges in court and assured citizens that the city administration would continue to function without disruption or vacancy.

Regarding his administrative goals, Chu emphasized a focus on economic revitalization, future industry development, and improving the quality of life for citizens. He outlined five pillars for his term: economic restructuring, cultural happiness, spatial transformation, safety and welfare, and empathetic administration. He also pledged to prevent the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region from being sidelined in national politics.
