Daegu Mayor launches advisory committee for industrial transformation
Daegu Mayor Chu Kyung-ho has launched the Daegu Advanced Industry Development Strategy Advisory Committee to spearhead a major industrial transformation in the region. The committee, composed of 22 experts and research institution heads, aims to diagnose the city's current economic status and establish a roadmap for future growth by the end of the year.
Addressing the structural challenges facing Daegu, such as aging industrial frameworks and weakening growth engines, Mayor Chu emphasized the need to transition from traditional machinery and parts manufacturing toward high-tech sectors. Key focus areas include semiconductors, robotics, mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), and biotechnology. The initiative seeks to create a connected ecosystem integrating research and development, talent cultivation, and investment.
In a separate development, cleaning staff at Daegu City Hall expressed their gratitude to Mayor Chu via handwritten letters. The workers thanked the mayor for responding to their requests for electric transport vehicles to alleviate the physical burden and safety risks associated with waste collection, following a communication meeting held last month.
